- Well, let's start with the complete story
of the Band: I read it was born from two separated projects, I'd like
to know more details on the way they merged together as well as the choice
of the name 'Mandylion'.
We formed the band in the autumn of 1997, after we quit our death metal
acts SOLILOQUY (Leif & Andreas) & ENCINED (Me & Andreas).
Leif & Andreas used to play together in a no named doom metal project
for a couple of years, but nothing happened. And in 1997 Andreas &
me started doing songs that didn´t work out in ENCINED, and later
that year ENCINED split up. Andreas & me continued playing together,
but Andreas had no time to play in both projects and they almost sounded
the same. So in the autumn of 97 we decided to put the two projects together
and MANDYLION was born. We all knew each other since many years so there
was no problem to work together. The name MANDYLION we found out when
I saw a documentary on TV. It has different meanings; one is the supposed
shroud of Christ. We're not religious in any way; we just liked the name
a lot.
- In the review I called your music 'Doom-Heavy
metal', do you agree withme? And would you be so kind to tell me something
more about the realisation of your self-financed MCD 'Haunted heart'?
It´s very hard to explain what kind of music we are playing. I don´t
think it´s important what to call our music. Someone call it gothic
but I don´t agree with that, for me gothic is Fields Of The Nephilim
and I don´t think we sound like them. It´s doomy and heavy,
but when I hear doom-heavy metal I think of bands as Candlemass, Trouble
etc., but what do I know.
- And now to the lyrics. Nature related with
melancholy and human misery.
Well, the lyrics deal with melancholy and feelings related with that.
It´s just the way they come out. Everything in life has a certain
effect on you and subconsciously grow inside of you. Writing might be
a kind of therapy to deal with that stuff.
- What should a Label have got to satisfy
Mandylion?
Good promotion, and I don´t want them to put their noses in our
work and tell us how to DO our music.
- Here comes the end, last words...
