- In your last e-mail, you define Arcane Art as a multi-media unity...referring to the concept of Arcane Art, and to the opposite principles that merges into Art, you say that CDs represent the controllable part while the live performances the uncontrollable instincts...but the border between the two element of expression now doesn’t seem so clear…
K: As time has gone by the borders between the controllable and uncontrollable elements has become less and less clear. This because when we decided we wanted to turn our live shows into a more multi-media related expression it soon became clear to us that this is something we can`t do without any prior planning, at least not if we would like it to be done in a proper way. Though there are elements in the music we are to perform as part of the liveshow which will not be controlled and 100% planned prior to the show. We are going to add musical elements, elements that has not been in our music before, such as instruments one can`t hear on the CD. When it comes to my definition of Arcane Art I define it as a multi-media unity simply because the band members are so much more than musicians. We all have experience within other artistic fields, which we also are involved in beside the band. For Arcane Art it will always be important to not get stuck within a specific form, which means that we will incorporate whatever elements we see fit.
- …artistic fields & multimedia…I know a lot of people that refuse to consider ‘multimedia’ as an art’s expression…to me it is another instrument to express feelings&emotions…multimedia, we see nowadays, has got its advantages and disadvantages , as everything man has created I guess….
K: To those who refuse to consider "multimedia" as an artform or art`s expression I can say that I cannot whatsoever find any reason why "multimedia" shouldn`t qualify as a form of art. Maybe they simply don`t understand the term multimedia, so let me enlighten them a bit on this issue. We all, or at least most of us, acknowledge music/sound, film/visuals, text/lyrics, performance/dance/theatre etc as artforms as well as they are separate forms of expression, thereby also becoming a media type. Then, when one decide to combine two or more of these expressions it becomes a multimedia expression. Is a multi media liveshow which includes music, lyrics, film, visuals and performance/dance any less art than a theatre or for that matter a book, a film or a painting? I really don’t see how anyone wholeheartedly can claim that multimedia is less art, when combining various artforms, than when they are performed individually, do you?
Everything has got its advantages and disadvantages, that’s just part of life. As for multimedia I see far more advantages than disadvantages, at least when it comes to putting together a liveshow/performance for stage. First and foremost by putting up a multimedia show I believe you get a more powerful expression, and you also give the audience something to remember, a memory or an experience that they will remember for a very long time. If one should talk about the disadvantages of putting together a multimediashow, it must be the fact that in order to create something worthwhile you’ll need to work with artists with visions. Another big problem can be to find the right people for such a project. Many people today are thinking money before artistic expression when you present ideas for a multimedia show to them. Luckily there are still true artists around, artists who wish to create without thinking about money, simply because it is for them, like me, more important to create than being paid in money. To see your art presented, either on CD or upon a stage, is payment enough for a true artist, as it gives you a tremendous satisfaction, a kind of satisfaction money can’t buy!
- And yes, all the members of Arcane Art are 'multimedia' Artists..let's focus on you: musician, photographer, poet, editor...and what else? the way to Art seems the only one to express our being nowadays....
K: Well. I like to think of myself as a multi-artist. It takes less time to explain sometimes
since I am involved in so many different forms of art. Beside music, photography, and poetry I am also a writer/journalist (occasionally doing work on a freelance basis for various magazines and newspapers), as well as I have a few times been the producer on some short film projects. For me personally it has become important to not limit oneself to one form of art, rather work with several different ones individually or combined. There are so many ideas in my head that needs to be expressed, and not all of them can be described or expressed with music alone, that`s why short films accompanied by music is a very interesting medium. It lets you explore new grounds and ways of expressing art.
- Back to the musical and lyrical aspect of Arcane Art now or, better, say to the way of “melancholy” that belongs to “enlighten” artists…how do you define your ‘condition’ of “cursed artist”? I mean: pain&suffering have always been the consequences of being ‘conscious’ of the human condition…
K: I believe you, like many others, are a bit curious as of why I have chosen such a title for an album. The main reason is because I have through the years been facing quite a few obstacles in my artistic life, and it has at times felt like I`ve had a curse hanging over me. Though it isn`t anything new in the fact that artists feel the world is going against them, and that to be a conscious artist often leads you into pain and suffering. It is just a part of an artists life, and when I made the decision to focus on art I was fully aware of what I could expect, but one always hope for the better to happen to oneself, and that with you it will be different than with others. The truth is it is not different at all, I guess. The best thing to do to somewhat explain what I put into the term "The Cursed Artist" must be
the poem written to the song with the same name (though not included on the CD).
