- Well, why dont start talking
about the metamorphosis (for the ones who still dont
know
.) from C&T to Even Vast
Anto: Well, EVEN VAST's born in
December 1997, after the split-up of our previous band called CHAOS AND
TECHNOCRACY (two 7"EP's and a live MCD released between '93 &
'96). I must say Even Vast and Chaos And Technocracy have just one thing
in common: me (voice) and Luca (guitar) as founder members. Chaos And
Technocracy was more a total fun band, something we've enjoyed for a long
while but that couldn't go on longer. The most of its members were losing
their interest in playing music during the last years, then, the endless
influences (me and Luca were mainly into doom metal while drummer and
the second guitar player were into hard-core and other stuff) which have
marked the band's sound in the long run became too hard to put together.
Our songs got incomprehensible more and more, and we all had the sensation
that we should stop it there. So, since me and Luca were the only ones
longing for going on with our projects, we decided to found a new band,
totally different from the previous one. Even Vast is the achievement
of our aim, just playing doom metal!! What we always hoped for! Now, with
the help of two extremely valid and motivated musicians we're carrying
on our tender creature... The actual (and hopefully definitive!!!) line
up of EVEN VAST is : Luca MARTELLO - guitars, Diego MANISCALCO - bass
& graphix, Antonietta SCILIPOTI - voice & synths, Roberto RISSO
- drums, perspiration & blood!!!Ha, ha!
- Once again your talent was not supported
in the proper way and so the great album Hear me Out has run
the risk to be forgotten and fading in the vast and chaotic Underground
Anto: Yes, unfortunately our debut
album (recorded and mixed by Han Swagerman Sr. two years ago at the BEAUFORT
RECORDING STUDIO in Bovenkarspel, Holland) didn't get the deserved support...
Greek label Black Lotus Records released "Hear me out" in end
May '99 but, beside few interviews (really underground) done later on
and some ads placed, we got not much, to be honest. I can even understand
actually many young labels can get interested mainly in trendy bands,
but we had to go on, couldn't really waste more time in waiting and waiting...
so, since no real hopes with Black Lotus have reached Even Vast, we have
decided to break our agreement with the Greek label, to search for interesting
proposals elsewhere; among others we've received a very interesting deal
with ARS METALLI (Germany).
- but, luckily, another, more competent,
label seems to be interested in Even Vast
have you signed the deal
you told me about some weeks ago?
Anto: Yes, after discussing it in
details we have definitely signed a contract with the above mentioned
label. The conditions of our contract are very good, we can say we're
100% satisfied with it. Beside new material, ARS METALLI will re-release
"Hear me out" album later on, so at least it will get a second
chance to be spread properly!
- what about new material?
Anto: Well, what can I say... there
are many things... I can tell you we're growing on quickly, many differences
can be found between our old material and the newest songs, although we
continue to play doom!! Actually our songwriting is more immediate and
more emotional, moreover now it's me playing synths beside singing and
writing all of the lyrics, and synths are constantly present for all songs'
lenght. Our second album will be recorded this year in August, once again
in Holland, at the BEAUFORT RECORDING STUDIO, and once again we should
get the co-operation of Lawrence Payne and Dennis Geestman (ex Phlebotomized)
as for "Hear me out". The album will be released by ARS METALLI
this year in December, at X-mas time, I suppose.
- and finally your new MCD
will be released
Anto: Sure!!! "Where the trees
still speak" MCD will be out very soon (end March or early April).
It is a very important step ahead for EVEN VAST songwriting. Who will
listen to it will realize how we've grown up during these two years, as
already said, many things have changed since then, so we can easily consider
this MCD as a necessary step between "Hear me out" and our second
album (on which we're actually working).
- Back to your debut album, and especially
to the lyrics: the marriage between a heavy veil of Suffering and the
strong will to react and emerge once again, as the most important is believing
in ourselves
Anto: Quite so! I think no one cares
of you as much as yourself do, am I right? In general, when I write a
lyric it happens because I think about what happened to me or to anyone/anything
else I care about. You know, actually I can't say I got many reasons to
be happy for... oh well, I don't want to say I am 100% unhappy, it's only
that many times I get angry for one thing or another, I don't know, it's
like this, I see or hear something I do not like at all (something that
happens in general or more particularly to me) and can't be indifferent
to that. I know there are many people who really suffer from a lot more
than stupid little problems like mine, and when I think of it and get
even more angry and sad and feel like shit. The most of times my lyrics
are a sort of vent, against the ones who make (or made) me suffer, but
lately are more often against myself, against my super stupid ego. It's
like there are two of me, one is fragile, sad, a very bad me; the other
is strong, enterprising, active at all costs! Definitely the one who mostly
emerges in my lyrics, but not necessairly in my everyday life. I know
what you're thinking and I do agree with you! I'm too complicated to understand,
I know! On the other hand I didn't ask to born...so it's not my fault,
ha!
- Feelings you know pretty well, I guess,
after all the nice experienced you have made in this so called
Underground Scene
Anto: Well, I guess I could tell
so many things but the most of you could probably be already tired and
bored enough to read my tryfling words longer, so I just say I hope you
all will get interested in listening to our music, maybe just for one
time, to get an idea of what we sound like etc. What I can say is that
our music is authentic and we want to put in it all our deepest feelings,
coming from our hearts. We don't mean to clone any other band, although
we know somebody could compare us to many others (it happend in past,
why it shouldn't now?). It doesn't matter, cause all we want is really
playing what we like to and making some people happy when they come at
our gigs or just when they, somehow, get a copy of our music, the bigger
part of our lives. To end it all, I want you all to know that another
important thing for us is the graphic work, entirely made by our bass
player, who really knows how to express the EVEN VAST music in his own
art. Really beautiful is the art-work of "Where the trees still speak"
MCD (till now the best for me), but absolutely GREAT is also the "Hear
me out" art-work, as well as all of his creations! Last but not least,
you can get in touch with EVEN VAST through ourwebsite which is: http://www.even-vast.com
OK, that's really all, I thank you a lot Simona for your endless help
which is really appreciated and to all your visitors I would like to ask
to dedicate just a little bit of their precious time in getting into EVEN
VAST, somehow. THANK YOU!!!
A kiss to everybody, yours Antonietta.
