- Well, the first question is pretty obvious: you also rule DragonFlight records, the label of your Bands.did all start for supporting your own creations?
Mr.M: Yes Dragon Flight started out for Long Winters Stare-Before the Dawn to be released. But it has grown into label with 4 artist (AS ALL DIE, VEINKE, NECROPHORUS, LS-TTL) . We run a Mailorder and Printed Music zine 5000 copies twice a year. Long Winters Stare is now on Dark Symphonies
- Now to Long Winter's Stare: "Before the Dawn. So go the Shadows ofhumanity".what does the Light symbolize for you? And what aboutImmortality?
Mr.M: LWS has no light in it . We are about the dark side of thought and travel the paths untraveled by most. I think the music of LWS will live forever in the minds that need it the most.
- The first time I opened the booklet of your full length Cd, I must admit I supposed you as a Black Metal Band (the facepainting, the axes.) And so I was surprised (and delighted) by your Music: a weird and suffering alchemy of sounds.But the 'matrix' seems to me Doom Metal, but some lyrics are pretty 'unusual' as tell of battles but.How was this complex "concept" born?
Mr.M: Long Winters Stare has nothing to do with Black metal . We are Symphonic Dark Metal. The Face paint as you Called it is just us letting of Warrior's inside out to tell a story. We create the epic tale of Vlad the impaler on that CD . Most now him as Dracula. LWS mixes Progressive Rock, Doom metal, Neoclassical music and some Avantgarde elements to make it what you hear.
- Concerning this topic, I really like the contrast of the voice (harsh growlings and a great powerful mad clean voice)! And 'He is insane' is my fave song .
Mr.M: Its our favourite song on the CD also and we always perform it live. We try to work as many different vocal and musical textures as we can . Our next Release will include Female vocals.
- Concerning lyrics, what's "your world" of the song 'Hounds'?
Mr.M: Hounds was a mistake a song no one in band likes , forget about that tragically poor Song
- Why the choice to perform a cover of Kansas?
Mr.M: ‘Carry on my wayward son’ is one of my favourite songs of all time and we wanted to make it darker and the sound that has always been in our head for that masterpiece of a song. Kansas is a very underrated band there not really " Dust in the wind " and more people should explore the Great Prog Rock Sounds out there. Early Genesis, Gentle Giant, Yes and Camel Etc
- ".the cold of the Night, the warlocks fly, AS ALL DIE" (War Epic)...ehmm, maybe a stupid way of me to try to link Long Winter's Stare to your other project AS ALL DIE.anyway, when did you feel it was necessary to create this most 'oneiric' (and "non metal" as you said) project? I mean both musically and lyrically speaking.
Mr.M: AS ALL DIE is my influnece by such artist as Arcana, The Protagonist, Puissance andSanctum etc im very influenced by the Cold Meat sound. I need to release these thoughts and it wouldn’t fit in LWS style. I don’t think our fan base would like AS ALL DIE much . SO its a new audience for me to exposure my disease too.
- The link between your project is anyway the Suffering (I guess).have you ever asked to yourself 'how can such people be so blind, so superficial, so idiot so.' ok but it another question I was saying Suffering. am I right?
Mr.M: Both Long Winters Stare and AS ALL DIE are about a journey into the deepest most lonely parts of your mind. Turn the lights out light some candles and feel you mortality when you listen to our music.
- I also often like to ask people if they remember which was the first time they was attracted by Darkness. do you remember yours?
Mr.M: I would say the 1st time truly saw that I loved the darkness was seeing Darth Vader in original Star wars and going "man I want to be him , all this power and he gets to kill anyone he Chooses ". I think I was brought to the Dark Side for good at that time.
- A question that has nothing to do with the rest (maybe): recently I saw the last movie by the master Tim Burton, "Sleepy Hollow", and I was enchanted by the ambience created by Burton. Have you seen it? And which is your favourite movie ever?
Mr.M: Sleepy hollow I have not seen no. My favourite movie of all time is Merlin " a movie from the 1980's about king Arthur" all must see it.
